Artist Statement
Sha’Niyah Shaw is a multidisciplinary artist from the Bay Area, She’s been dancing since diaper days but got the training/professional help at the age of 15 when she attended June Jordan School For Equity and joined their dance class and team; where she helped create fun and transitional dances for not only, performances and highschool rallys, but Carnival as well. Her love for writing and poetry developed at a young age, she's very outspoken and likes to express her feelings on paper in an artistic way. This led into Music production, also at June Jordan, in a Urban studies/music production elective, where she learned a bit of djing, further on how to artistically put words together through song writing, poetry, and open mics, and beat making and she carried on from there.
Her senior year of high school she was located in Clearlake California and joined the dance team of her high school and soon became head captain with her best friend co-captain. After highschool years ended she stopped the artistic way to get her life together and soon found her way to Larkin Street Youth Services’ Arts Program/cohort and found a place to get professional assistance to build her artist.

Why am I an Artist
I am an artist and i like to create, one, because its fun and something that brings me lots of joy, also its a healthy outlet for my emotions be to express creatively. What makes it better is that i can do them in multiple ways and also bring them together
My Special Median/s
They all, poetry. dance and music production all help me in different areas. I can create a beat that I like for me to express my emotion or how I’m feeling, I can further sit in my thoughts and think about that i say and turn it into a beautiful poem or song. From there i can get up and feel the rm in my body as it flows to the sounds that ive just created.
